Crazy Girl, I Mean, Hat Day

Yesterday Emily was in one of her moods and had a horrible melt down. She had to spend the rest of the evening in her room. I was in the office next door to her room and was listening to her play Barbies. She kept asking all of them "Who stole the cookie from the cookie jar?" Apparently none of them were confessing because the next thing you know she had them all taking lie detector tests. I then told her to go to sleep and she told me that it was "Old School" to go to bed. "No one goes to bed anymore, that's old school." In the morning, she told me that she didn't get much sleep last night. She was asleep when I went to bed so I was confused. Well, she woke up in the middle of the night and remembered the next day was "crazy hat day" at school. I was just going to have her wear one of her silly hats, but she was on a mission. She presented me with her creation that she stayed up all night making. It is made from a bowl, electrical tape, toilet paper, curlers, chip clips, a straw, ribbon, and scrunchies. This is her crazy hat! She is so cool!

Homecoming Carnival & New Pets

Today is the "Homecoming" game at Christopher's school. They had a little carnival this afternoon. It was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. They each won a goldfish. Now we are off to buy fish food. Just what we needed more things to take care of. Chris took his Homecoming date for tomorrow night's dance to the carnival. Joseph and his fish.

Emily got her hair done and her face painted.

Our Very Own Georgie Porgie and Other Updates

Where to begin? My mom just left this morning after a week long visit from California. The kids loved having her here. I wanted to take some pictures of them all together when she was here, but my mom didn't want to put on make-up and apparently has my same aversion to photographs as I do. Maybe next time. We didn't do much, just relax and hang out. She DID however do All my laundry. That is a huge feat in which I am quite pleased. Thank you mom! We will miss her. She did get to watch Joseph's game on Tuesday. He was AWESOME!! He ran in for a touchdown dragging people behind him(it was so cool!) He had a caught punt return dragging his tacklers again behind. He made an incredible tackle. He did many more little things and stole the show. All kinds of parents and spectators came up after the game and told him how great it was. I even had one of those "That's my son!" moments. I really actually yelled that out. I was so proud. The bad news. Today I took him to the Dr. to check out his sore thumb. It is broken and he is more than likley out for three weeks. I feel so deprived! I look forward to my Tuesday high. I frequently get a little teary eyed during the games as I walk the sidelines. His dad would be so proud. When he was just a 2 pound little runt his daddy called him his little linebacker. I feel sad that he isn't there to share in this joy of his little miracle boy he almost lost. Instead Joseph lost him. Irony is the story of my life. Okay, enough of that, I swear the pain is just right there on the surface waiting to seep out at any time. So on to my Georgie Porgie story. Emily kissed a boy and made him cry. She likes this little boy at school and isn't shy about it. She definitely comes by this honestly from her mother. She has pushed him up against the wall to get an answer to whether he likes her or not, tackled him, tells him how she feels, made hime cards, etc. You get the point. Well, today she took it to another level. She ran home so excited to tell us that she kissed him on the cheek. I was immediately concerned. There are serious sexual harrassment laws in schools these days even for the youngest of perpetrators. The mom of this little boy works in the office at the school. I called her to appologize immediately. She said her son told her and he was upset. The mom was very nice and not too concerned. I told her I was handling my daughter and it shouldn't happen again. I wish I could have said it WOULDN'T happen again, but with Emily I can't promise anything. She is a little embarrassed by my making such a big deal out of it and is refusing to applogize tomorrow as of right now, but hopefully will be ready by tomorrow. My poor daughter. I really hope she gets a handle on her social skills before she gets herself into all kinds of trouble. Unfortunately, having special needs doesn't really make the world really that compassionate like one might think. People of all ages tend to dimiss special needs people with no real thought of the pain they deal with and their family deals with every day. I don't want to ramble on so i'll leave it at that. My daughter and lots of others are struggling to "fit in" our high expectation society. Life is hard enough for us, it's brutal for them. "Love Don't Judge" is my motto!!!

My Favorite Pastime!!

I like pro football, but I LOVE watching my Joseph play football more than anything else. He is so awesome. He had his first game of the season today. He made great tackles. He doesn't let anyone past him. He is on both offense and defense. He ran with the ball quite a few times. I continue my streak as the loudest parent cheering. When Joseph has the ball or is going for a tackle, I am yelling my head off and I have a loud voice. Oh well, I can't help it, it's too exciting. I can't even sit down I'm so excited. Joseph is one tough, fast little guy. It is the best feeling and I am so glad football season has arrived.

A Three Dog Night

It is said that a three dog night is the coldest of nights. Well, how appropriate because last night we went to the "Three Dog Night" concert and it was freezing! It was at the outdoor theatre. The weather has been quite hot lately and all of a sudden yesterday it changed to a bitter cold. It was about 45-50 degrees during the show. The show was fun. Dennis loved it and it's always fun to be in a packed place with a lot of singing and dancing. These old guys were really funny trying to be hip and young again. Their dance moves were slow and interesting. I laughed a lot. The atmosphere was jovial and peaceful. It was a nice date!

Timpanogos Caves National Monument

On Labor Day we went for a family hike (and one of Joseph's friends) to Timpanogos Caves. It was a treacherous hike! It was a very steep 1 1/2 mile hike in which you gain over 1050ft. in elevation. I thought I was going to have a heart attack. It was a little scary too having no fences or rails. I was just hoping Emily didn't fall off the side of the mountain. Very breathtaking, literally and figuratively. This is everyone as we reached the top of the hike ready for our hour long cave tour.

Chris looking cute in the cave!

Emily really did awesome on the hike and she loved the cave, asking LOTS of questions!

Joseph hiked better than all of us and loved the cave!

Dennis loves his stalactites!

This is called "The Heart" of the cave due to the massive size of this stalactite. It is said to weigh over 4,000 pounds. It is so beautiful!

Timpanogos Cave is known for its high concentration of helictites - a spiraling cave formation that seems to defy gravity. Helictites are formed when calcite crystals and dissolved impurities are forced out of a tiny central canal in the helictite by hydrostatic pressure.
